Melissa Ludtke in Conversation with Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton: Locker Room Talk and Gutsy Women

  • 92nd Street Y 1395 Lexington Avenue New York, NY, 10128 United States (map)

When Melissa Ludtke sued Major League Baseball in 1978 for equal access (and won), she didn’t just change sports journalism. She helped rewrite the rules for women in locker rooms, courtrooms, and newsrooms.

Now, in a rare and deeply personal conversation, Ludtke sits down with longtime friend Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton for a galvanizing evening exploring the lives of gutsy women — women with the courage to stand up to the status quo, ask hard questions, and get the job done.

Guided by Secretary Clinton’s The Book of Gutsy Women and Ludtke’s new memoir Locker Room Talk, the two spotlight the lives of iconic changemakers whose courage shaped the world: Shirley Chisholm, Billie Jean King, Judge Constance Baker Motley, and the Title IX architects Patsy Mink, Bernice Sandler, and Edith Green. Their legacies fuel a conversation about civil rights, gender equality, and the personal stakes of public fights.

More than a retrospective, this is an urgent dialogue between two women who have been on the frontlines of politics, of the press, and of social change – reflecting on what it means to stand up, break through, and bring others with you.
